Final Degree Project

Solhycool at the 1st EU-SOLARIS Summer School

The 1st EU-SOLARIS Summer School, held within the SOLARIZE project and focused on sustainable water management in CST, featured a presentation by Patricia Palenzuela (CIEMAT–PSA) on innovative cooling strategies for CSP plants. She explained the different types of existing cooling, their advantages and disadvantages and shared the PSA experience acquired in the evaluation of innovative combined cooling systems under the framework of Solhycool project. She showed the main experimental results from two systems tested at the PSA, showing their strong potential to reduce both electricity and water consumption. A data-driven optimization tool was also presented, which enables real-time adaptation to ambient conditions and further cost reductions.

Simposium CEA

The 1st Joint Symposium of the Control Engineering, Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation and Automatics Education Groups of the Spanish Automatics Committee was held at the University of Seville on 22-24 January. In this symposium, the Gaussian process regression modelling of the combined cooling system was presented, as well as the validation with experimental data of the pilot plant located at the Plataforma Solar de Almería, a task that will allow us to continue working on the optimisation of the operation within the Solhycool project.

Solhycool at SolarPACES

The experimental results of a combined wet cooling tower and air condenser system were presented in a poster at the SolarPACES 2024 international congress. This congress, held in Rome from 8 to 11 October, is one of the most important in the field of concentrating solar power. SolarPACES (Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems) is an international collaborative network that brings together teams of national experts from around the world to focus on the development and commercialisation of concentrating solar power systems (also known as solar thermal energy systems). It is part of a series of collaborative programmes managed under the umbrella of the International Energy Agency to help find solutions to global energy challenges. The 30th edition of the SolarPACES conference was a great success, with the spectacular participation of 525 people from 40 countries.

MEDNIGHT - Noche Europea de l@s Investig@dores

The Solhycool project, in collaboration with the MEDNIGHT project, participated in the activities of the Researchers’ Night organised by the University of Almería. As part of the Night in the Classrooms, we went to IES Mar Serena (Pulpí) and Villa de Vícar (La Gangosa) to explain solar thermal energy and the importance of water in these processes.
