CEA simposium

The 1st Joint Symposium of the Control Engineering, Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation and Automatics Education Groups of the Spanish Automatics Committee was held at the University of Seville on 22-24 January. In this symposium, the Gaussian process regression modelling of the combined cooling system was presented, as well as the validation with experimental data of the pilot plant located at the Plataforma Solar de Almería, a task that will allow us to continue working on the optimisation of the operation within the Solhycool project.

Solhycool at SolarPACES

The experimental results of a combined wet cooling tower and air condenser system were presented in a poster at the SolarPACES 2024 international congress. This congress, held in Rome from 8 to 11 October, is one of the most important in the field of concentrating solar power. SolarPACES (Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems) is an international collaborative network that brings together teams of national experts from around the world to focus on the development and commercialisation of concentrating solar power systems (also known as solar thermal energy systems).

MEDNIGHT - Noche Europea de l@s Investig@dores

The Solhycool project, in collaboration with the MEDNIGHT project, participated in the activities of the Researchers’ Night organised by the University of Almería. As part of the Night in the Classrooms, we went to IES Mar Serena (Pulpí) and Villa de Vícar (La Gangosa) to explain solar thermal energy and the importance of water in these processes.

Award finalist

Juan Miguel Serrano was a finalist for the Young Author Award at the 4th IFAC Conference on Advances in Proportional-Integral-Derivative Control, with a paper on the optimisation of the combined cooling system of the Solhycool project. This conference, supported by the International Federation of Automatic Control and the Spanish Committee of Automatics, was organised by the Automatics, Robotics and Mechatronics Group of the University of Almeria. This event is considered to be the conference with the greatest international cooperation between industry and academia, as it deals with advances in automatic control solutions based on PID control algorithms, which are implemented in one of their variants in more than 90% of industrial processes worldwide.
